Former CPI-M MP's son shot dead in Bengal

The son of a former Communist Party of India-Marxist MP was shot dead by unidentified assailants in West Bengal's Burdwan district Thursday,police said.

Arpan Mukhopadhyay, himself an active member of the CPI-M, was fatally shot by motorcycle borne assassins while he was on his morning walk near Burnpur stadium in Asansol, a police officer said.

Arpan, who was declared brought dead at Burnpur hospital, was the son of Bamapada Mukhopadhyay, a former MP from Asansol.

CPI-M party sources hinted at the involvement of the Trinamool, saying: "There is every possibility that they have eliminated him."

Following the killing, irate local residents people staged a demonstration beforethe Burnpur police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
