British Soldier Dies In Afghan IED Explosion

Ministry of Defence said he had been deployed on an operation to disrupt insurgent activity in the Nad-e Ali District of Helmand Province on Wednesday when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED). Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel David Eastman, said: "The soldier gave his life pursuing peace and stability for a people that had been dominated by insurgent subjugation, threats and intimidation. "We vow to carry on his vital work in the face of such cowardly and indiscriminate attacks. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family at this deeply sad time." The soldier's next of kin have been informed. The death brings the total number of UK military personnel to have died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001 to 359.
