EC Increases Support to Producers for Epidemic

Brussels, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The European Commission rose from 150 to 210 million euros the aid to producers affected by the disease outbreak caused by E.coli. These additional funds seek to placate European farmers, whose sales plummeted after the outbreak alert and had found insufficient the assistance proposed by the European Commission on Monday. According to European Commissioner for Agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, this new addition is intended to compensate the agricultural sector in the region, mostly in Spain, by the millions in losses in recent days. Last week, the Government of Madrid criticized community authorities for their management of the crisis and demanded compensation to repair damage caused to producers.
