Gambling tax threatens to wipe out seaside slots

THE lights are going out at Britain’s struggling seaside amusement arcades. Around 200 have closed in the past four years because of crippling overheads and plummeting profits. Now changes to the way fruit machines are taxed could kill off the nation’s remaining 500 seaside arcades, say operators.
