Al Qaeda kill seven Yemeni soldiers

Irish Sun (IANS) Sunday 29th August, 2010

Seven Yemeni soldiers were killed and five wounded in an Al Qaeda attack in the country's troubled Abyan province, an official said.

The fatalities occurred when Al Qaeda militants raided a security check post in Modia district Saturday. The soldiers had gathered to break their Ramadan fast, Xinhua quoted an official as saying.

The militants fled after the attack.

The government has intensified operations against terror groups after Yemen-based Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for an attempted attack on a US passenger plane bound for Detroit last year.
