Breaking subcontinent jinx crucial for English domination, claims Strauss
Irish Sun (ANI) Tuesday 3rd January, 2012
England captain Andrew Strauss has stressed on the importance of winning in the subcontinent.
England will play four away series this year and each of them will be played in sub continental conditions.
Strauss believes that if England desires to become the world's best cricketing team then they need to conquer the subcontinent's jinx as statistics show that England haven't performed very well here.
He has also termed the year 2012 crucial for his side and has asked his team to perform well during this year to become the best team in the world, the Daily Mirror reports.
"This is absolutely one of the biggest tests we'll have as a side over the next year," said Strauss.
"England's record in the subcontinent has been patchy. It is a good time for us to have a lot of subcontinent cricket because we're confident and we've done well over the last two years or so and this is a new frontier for us to go and win consistently," he added.
Strauss also said that his team wanted to keep the spot-fixing scandal behind them and move ahead to be regarded as the best team in the world.
"If you want to be regarded as the best side all around the world then you've got to win in all conditions. We are desperately keen to move on from the spot-fixing issue and there is no good churning it up again," he added.
He also said that the next year was not going to be easy for England but his team needs to adjust quickly and perform at the highest level.
"We're aware it is a stiff challenge and also that we need to have different skills out there. It is just what we need as a side, but we're not underestimating it," he adds. (ANI)
