Gardai launch probe into collision at Clonkeen, Portlaoise

DUBLIN, Ireland - In a horrific crash that occurred at Clonkeen, Portlaoise - an 18-year-old woman was severely injured and is said to be battling for life.
The crash that occurred on the Portlaoise to Mountrath road is said to have taken place between two vehicles and both the drivers, a man aged 18 and a woman in her early 60s, were removed to Tullamore Hospital.
Meanwhile, a female passenger, the 18-year-old, was rushed to the Tallaght Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.
All of those injured are Laois natives from the Mountrath / Castletown area.
The road was subsequently closed for technical examination and local diversions have been put in place.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and Laois County Fire and Rescue crews from Portlaoise and Stradbally attended the incident - rescuing those stuck inside the vehicles by using cutting equipment to remove them.
Three ambulances and a number of paramedic emergency vehicles attended the scene and Garda accident investigators were on the scene to investigate the crash.
