KILDARE, Ireland - A suspected bomb was discovered on a local road in Co Kildare, forcing authorities to evacuate houses in the area.
The suspected bomb was reportedly discovered in Ballymore Eustace when a civilian was cutting down a tree in the area.
The man immediately informed the gardai and officials called on the Army Bomb Disposal team to deal with the finding at the scene.
The Defence Forces said that when they arrived at the scene, gardai had cordoned off the area.
The bomb disposal team had reportedly found an old Civil War Era munition in a tree in the area.
A Defence Forces spokesman said, "The munition was discovered in the vicinity of Ballymore Eustace, Co Kildare. The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 6.20pm. To ensure public safety, a number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. The scene was declared safe at 7.40pm.”
The spokesman also advised, “Should members of the public encounter such munitions they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána."
