DUBLIN, Ireland - An Garda Siochana took to their Facebook page to post an image of a car being driven by an 18-year-old learner driver, who was caught for clocking a hellraising 181kph near Naas.
According to the gardai, they had arrested the teenage driver on the M9 for dangerous driving.
The An Garda Siochana said on their Facebook page, “Naas Roads Policing. An 18yr old youth (male) learner driver travelling at 181km/h on the M9 this morning. Arrested for dangerous driving next stop is the district court for this young man…not a great start for a learner driver!”
Gardai pointed out that learner drivers are not permitted on motorways in Ireland.
As the post went up, several users criticized the young man for driving so fast, with some saying, "Regardless of what anyone thinks of the speed limits, they are there for everyone's safety and need to be obeyed. 180 is a ridiculous speed to be doing. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for the young man."
Meanwhile, gardai also stated that between last night and this morning, 537 motorists were breath tested in the Naas District during the operation, with just one arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
