DUBLIN, Ireland - Following its successful acquisition of Hollywood-based Blindlight, Irish video-gaming company Keywords Studios has now announced its latest accomplishment.
Keywords released a statement announcing that it has acquired a Canadian video game and interactive media development studio as part of its expansion drive.
The Irish firm said that it has acquired Snowed In Studios for 2.6 million euros (CAD$4 million).
In its statement, Keywords said that the acquisition not only strengthens and enhances the Keywords Engineering service line but also helps it expand into Canada.
Andrew Day, CEO of Keywords, said in the statement, "The addition of Snowed In to the group will add strength and scale to our recently established engineering service line and enable Snowed In to take advantage of the group's very strong presence in the region to support its growth."
Day added, "Having grown the Engineering service line from nothing in May 2017, we now employ over 300 software engineers in multiple regions, and I'm delighted that Jean-Sylvain, Tim, Evan and their highly talented and creative team are joining the Group as we continue to grow."
Snowed In, which provides engineering and co-development services to the video-games industry, was founded in 2010.
The firm, which employs 29 people at its Ottawa office, also boasts of well-established relationships with clients like Ubisoft and Bethesda.
In its latest financial year ending January 31, 2018, the company reportedly recorded earnings of CAD$0.8 million from revenue of CAD$2.4 million.
Keywords said that the firm's current owners will remain with the business post the acquisition.
Commenting on the acquisition, Studio Head of Snowed In Studios, Jean-Sylvain Sormany said, "We are very excited about the acquisition of Snowed In Studios by Keywords as it will strengthen the gaming sector in Ottawa by having a large key player setting foot in the region. It means stability, growth and more opportunities for talents to continue fostering in our local industry."
