SYDNEY, Australia - Stocks were mixed in Asia on Thursday.
In Japan the Nikkei 225 fell 178.32 points or 0.76% to close at 23,141.55.
The Australian All Ordinaries rose 35.20 points or 0.52% to 6,840.80.
In Hong Kong the Hang Seng tumbled 247.77 points or 0.93% to 26,323.69.
China's Shanghai Composite edged up 4.63 points or 0.16% to 2,909.87..
The U.S. dollar was strong in Asia. The euro slipped to 1.0996. The pound fell to 1.2832. The Japanese yen was a fraction lower at 108.71. The Swiss franc weakened to 0.9900.
The Canadian dollar slid to 1.3258. The Australian dollar was lower at 0.6798, while the New Zealand dollar fell to 0.6394.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit an all-time high, closing 92.1 points, or 0.33% higher at 27,783.59.
The Standard and Poor's 500 also hit a record high, adding 2.13 points, or 0.07%, to 3,093.97.
The Nasdaq Composite slipped 3.99 points, or 0.05%, to 8,482.10.
