MOSCOW, Russia: Employees at Russian airlines and airports have begun receiving army draft orders, as reported this week by the daily Kommersant newspaper.
The draft notices were delivered following President Vladimir Putin's partial military mobilization.
The newspaper further reported that employees of five airlines, including Russia's Aeroflot, along with staff at ten airports received their notices within one day of Putin ordering the mobilization.
Kommersant further disclosed that 50 to 80 percent of employees at some airlines could be called upon to join the Russian army.
A source at Aeroflot was quoted as saying that over half of the staff at three of the company's airlines might be drafted, Kommersant reported.
A majority of pilots flying commercial aircraft in Russia are reserve officers trained in military flight schools.
Meanwhile, at least five airports and airlines are preparing lists of employees they would like to receive military exemptions for, which includes pilots, air traffic controllers, technical, commercial and IT specialists.
The mobilization ordered by Putin is the first in Russia since World War II.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was quoted as saying that some 300,000 reservists would be called up, being primarily those who are specialists with combat experience.
