DUBLIN, Ireland Minister for Finance Michael McGrath said the government has yet to receive word on potential Irish job losses at Microsoft, despite reports that the US technology giant plans to cut 5% of its global workforce.
"We haven't received any indication yet. "I spoke with the IDA this morning, and they don't yet have a readout of what the implications will be for Ireland," Mr. McGrath said on the fringes of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Wednesday.
Microsoft, which employs over 3,000 people in the Republic, and about 221,000 workers globally, is reportedly planning to lay off thousands of workers worldwide. According to reports on Tuesday night, the computing giant intends to lay off about 5% of its global workforce as it seeks to reduce costs amid economic uncertainty and refocus on strategic priorities such as artificial intelligence.
