CO MAYO, Ireland - Gardai are continuing to investigate the circumstances in which a woman died in a single-vehicle road traffic crash just before midnight on Friday night.
The crash, at 11.45 pm occurred in Hoban's car park in Castlebar Co. Mayo on Friday night. It resulted in the woman's car ending up in the Castlebar River.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the car was found in the river.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.
An examination of the scene has been carried out by Forensic Collision Investigators.
Garda are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Any road users who were in the area on Friday night between 10pm and midnight, who may have camera footage (including dashcam) is asked to make it available to investigating officers.
