CO MAYO, Ireland - A teenage youth has been killed in a freak collision.
The boy was struck by a truck while walking in The Neale, Co. Mayo on Tuesday evening.
The tragic incident occurred on the R345, The Neale to Cong road, shortly before 5pm Tuesday.
The youth's body was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
The R345 (The Neale to Cong) road was closed while the scene was subjected to a forensic examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road remained closed overnight. Local diversions were put in place.
Garda are appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision to contact them. Anyone who was travelling on the R345, The Neale to Cong road, between 4pm and 5pm Tuesday evening and who may have camera footage (including dashcam) is asked to make this available to investigators.
