CO WESTMEATH, Ireland - Yet another motorcyclist has bene killed on Irish roads.
The latest fatality occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Athlone, Co Westmeath.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a single-vehicle road traffic collision at around 2:20am Wednesday in the Kilmartins Roundabout area on the Dublin Road in Athlone, County Westmeath.
There they found a motorcyclist, a man aged in his 20s, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kilmartins Roundabout was closed to facilitate the services of Forensic Collision Investigators. Junction 10 on the N6 was also closed, and diversions were put in place via Junction 9.
A part of the R446 was also closed to traffic, with road users travelling between Athlone and Moate advised to use the M6.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the Kilmartins Roundabout area of Athlone between 2:00am and 2:30am are asked to make this footage available to iarda.
