DUBLIN, Ireland - Gardai are investigating after the grave of a young child who died due to an asthma attack was set on fire.
Shocking images have emerged of the aftermath of a fire on floral tributes and other items placed on the grave of tragic 12-year-old Kyle Finnegan, who died in 2018.
The shocking attack on the child's grave occurred Thursday night, leaving family members distressed.
A local councilor, Dermot Richardson, told the press that the Finnegan family was devastated.
"People are shocked that a young child's grave can be damaged this way." "The family is completely devastated." Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Tallaght Garda Station."
Meanwhile, a Garda Siochana spokesperson confirmed that the incident is being investigated as one of suspected criminal damage.
"The Garda received a report of a criminal damage incident that occurred in the Bohernabreena area of Tallaght, Co Dublin, at approximately 7 pm on Thursday, May 25th, 2023."
"No arrests have been made, and investigations continue," a spokesperson said.
Kyle tragically died in September 2018 from a suspected asthma attack.
"Kyle has had asthma since he was four years old, and he has had a few attacks, but never anything like this," said his mother, Joanne.
Following his death, a minute's silence was observed at football matches across the county to pay tribute to the young man, a big Shamrock Rovers fan.
