Precision in progress: Ireland's NSAI NML introduces National Timing Grid

The roll-out of Ireland's first National Timing Grid (NTG) has been announced by the National Standards Authority of Ireland's National Metrology Laboratory (NSAI NML).
The new system will track clock stability against other atomic clocks in near real-time, providing early warnings in the event of timing drift.
The grid will help mitigate the growing dangers of GPS jamming or spoofing and provide redundancy in the event of clock failure.

DUBLIN, Ireland - The roll-out of Ireland's first National Timing Grid (NTG) has been announced by the National Standards Authority of Ireland's National Metrology Laboratory (NSAI NML).

The new system will track clock stability against other atomic clocks in near real-time, providing early warnings in the event of timing drift.

The grid will help mitigate the growing dangers of GPS jamming or spoofing and provide redundancy in the event of clock failure.

The NSAI stated that time and timing distribution have become increasingly important for critical infrastructure sectors such as communications, energy, transportation, public services, financial services, and cloud data centers when launching the new timing system.

According to the authority, accurate timing in Ireland's networks is paramount as the country's digital economy grows and more services are moved online.

"We are thrilled to launch the nation's first National Timing Grid," said David Fleming, NSAI Technical Manager for Time.

"As more and more of our services are moved online, keeping Ireland's networks on time is critical in supporting its day-to-day operations," Mr Fleming said.

The new timing grid is being delivered in collaboration with Data Edge and Timing Solutions.
