The draft Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy (NIRSS) to 2030 Annual Statistical Report, 2023 is published

The draft Northern Ireland Road Safety Strategy (NIRSS) to 2030 annual statistics are now available.

These data provide the finalised National Statistics (NS) which track the 2022 position against the four targets and various key performance indicators contained in the Strategy.

Key points

In 2022

There were 55 fatalities in road traffic collisions. This represents a reduction of 19% from the 2014-2018 Strategy baseline figure (68), and an increase of 10% from 2021.

There were 910 people seriously injured (SI) in road traffic collisions which is 12% more than the number recorded in 2021 and 21% higher than the baseline figure of 751.

There were 92 children (aged 0 to 15) killed or seriously injured (KSIs) in road traffic collisions - 12 more than in 2021. This represents an increase of 30% from the baseline figure (71) and an increase of 15% over the year.

There were 196 young people (aged 16 to 24) KSIs in road traffic collisions, the same level as the 2014-18 baseline figure, but represented a 9% increase on the number recorded in 2021.
