FRESNO, California: Fresno State suspended two of its top men's basketball players last weekend and removed a third player from the team after reports of a gambling investigation involving the school.
In a statement, the school said that Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins are not allowed to play while the university looks into an eligibility issue. They also said there would be no further comments for now.
According to ESPN.com, Mykell Robinson, who hasn't played since January 11, is no longer part of the team.
The Fresno Bee first reported on the school's internal investigation, and officials later informed the NCAA, which has also started its own investigation.
Fresno State has a record of 5 wins and 23 losses this season (1-16 in the Mountain West Conference) and has already set a new record for the most losses in a single season. They lost again over the weekend, 72-69, to Air Force, marking their ninth straight defeat.
Weaver was averaging 12.5 points and 4.7 assists per game, the highest on the team. Collins was scoring 12.0 points per game, and Robinson averaged 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds.
